Top 3 Questions To Ask Your Lasik Doctor

Before you begin your LASIK treatment, there are many questions you may have of your doctor.  Some are obvious, but others are less so. The following three questions are ones you probably will not think to ask, and they are also probably the three most important ones.  Prior to starting treatment, ask your surgeon:

1.      How long have you been practicing LASIK surgery?  Ideally, your surgeon will have been practicing LASIK eye surgery for at least three years.  Experience is an essential factor in a LASIK surgeon, and it is important to know the answer to this question, although it may be a difficult thing to ask.  Keep in mind that the surgeon is working for you, and do not be concerned about asking smart questions about his or her credentials.

2.      How many LASIK eye surgery procedures have you performed?  The answer should be at least 500.  As with amount of time practiced, the amount of times your surgeon has performed the procedure is an essential variable in determining their level of expertise.  Practice makes perfect, as the saying goes.

3.      How many of your patients achieved 20/40 vision or better following the their LASIK eye surgery procedure?  Regardless of how long a surgeon has been practicing LASIK surgery, and how many people he or she has treated, if the treatment was not successful, those barometers do not mean much. An excellent LASIK surgeon should be able to claim that at least 90% of the individuals on whom they have performed LASIK eye surgery achieved 20/40 vision.
